Thought I'd just share a piece of info located in the forums in regards to the Coalesced Qliphotic Energy (purple crafting components) found in UNITY missions.
It seems that Qliphotic Energy components can be traded along with 1G, 10G, 50G, for a lottery-style shot at obtaining rare crafting components, rare gear, or greater epiphanies. There have been at least 5 different posters on the official forums discussing the results of these and most have agreed that anything beyond 1G is simply not worth it. Generally, no-one has seen rare gear (even though this is officially noted in the patch notes) and paying more does not increase your chances to scale. Should you be after rare components or great epiphanies, this may be a fast way of obtaining these.
Lastly, its been confirmed by a dev(?) Antiproton that this method is merely a shoe-in atm for the upcoming crafting changes (perhaps in 2010). So feel free to store your energies and wait! I know I will...
